July 9, 2015 - Maggie Casto, Gail Sholar and Cynthia Webster of the William Carroll Crawford Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, presented a book, "Magnificent Sam" to Sandra Davis for the children's section of the Fannie Brown Booth Library in Center.
The book tells in words and pictures of the amazing adventures of Sam Houston. The inscription on General Sam Houston's Tomb reads: "A Brave Soldier, A Fearless Statesman. A Great Orator A Pure Patriot. A Faithful Friend, A Loyal Citizen. A Devoted Husband and Father. A Consistent Christian-An Honest Man."
This was Sam Houston, the first President of the Republic of Texas and Governor of the State of Texas from 1859 to 1861. Magnificent Sam!
