Nacogdoches Street Scene of Crash involving Center PD Vehicle (Updated)

November 14, 2023 - Nacogdoches Street in Center (State Highway 7) was the scene of a two-vehicle crash involving a Center Police Department vehicle and a utility truck on November 14, 2023, at 2:54pm.

Emergency personnel from multiple agencies responded to the scene to assist those involved. Center Fire Department and Shelby County Sheriff’s Department assisted with traffic control while Center Police Department officers assisted their officer and Texas Department of Public Safety State Troopers investigated the crash scene.

According to information released by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), Troopers investigated a crash on state Highway 7 near Wulf Creek.

The preliminary crash investigation indicates that at approximately 2:54pm, a white 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe Center Police Department patrol unit driven by Garrett Rocchi, 32, was traveling east in the outside lane, while a white 1998 International truck tractor driven by Kenneth Campbell, 35, of Center was traveling east in the inside lane. 

It is reported that the officer conducted a U-turn in front of the truck tractor after observing a traffic violation on the westbound side and was struck on the driver side.

Officer Rocchi was transported to Nacogdoches Medical Center [Shelby Emergency Department] for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Campbell was not reported to have been injured.

According to DPS, this is an ongoing investigation, and no further information is available at this time.

Both vehicles ended up in the westbound ditch where the police vehicle traveled through a wall and the utility truck came to rest on its passenger side facing west.


November 14, 2023 - Nacogdoches Street at Wulf Creek in Center is the scene of a two-vehicle crash. Emergency personnel are currently investigating the incident and assisting those involved. Traffic is currently down to one lane of traffic. Travelers should consider an alternate route until the scene is clear.
