ETPF Quilts of Valor Presentation 2023

October 9, 2023 - (Photo Album) - The Shelby County 4-H Heart to Hands Project, Scrap Happy Quilters and the Shelby Sewcial Bee presented 15 veterans with quilts during East Texas Poultry Festival activities under the big tent on Thursday, October 5, 2023, during their Quilts of Valor presentation. 

Presenting the quilts were Feleshia Thompson, Shelby County Extension Agent, and Shelby Sewcial Bee representative, Michele Clark. Each veteran was introduced and presented with a ceremonial quilts. Each of the quilts the veterans would later take home were on display during the festival at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center.


 

Each honoree was then announced and their service was recognized. As the ceremonial quilt was placed on their shoulders, they were welcomed home and thanked for their service.

Kyle Sayre (2006-2012) (7:30 in video 2); Specialist Otis Amy (1992-1995) (9:35 in video 2); Lt. Col. Robert Cannon (1966-1986) (11:02 in video 2); Marine Roy Heller (1959-1964) (00:06 in video 3); Lt. Col. Vernon Dale Freeman (1952-1987) (2:09 in video 3); and Chief Petty Officer Vernett Richardson (1985-2009) (4:13 in video 3).
