June 2, 2024 - At 10:51pm Sunday, June 2, 2024, the National Weather Service in Shreveport has issued a Flash Flood Warning until 1:45am for Central Nacogdoches County in eastern Texas; Northern San Augustine County in eastern Texas; Shelby County in eastern Texas; and Southeastern Cherokee County in northeastern Texas.
At 10:51pm, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 2 and 4 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 0.5 to 1 inch in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.
Radar indicated flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.
Some locations that will experience flash flooding include: Nacogdoches, Center, San Augustine, Tenaha, Timpson, Garrison, Joaquin, Wells, Martinsville, Melrose, Woden, Neuville, Bland Lake, Shelbyville, Patroon, Forest, Morrill, Appleby, Chireno and Huxley.
Precautionary/Preparedness Actions: Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.
Additionally, at 10:57pm, Sunday, June 2, 2024, the Severe Thunderstorm Watch 380, previously in effect until Midnight tonight, is now in effect until 1am Monday for the following areas:
- South central Arkansas - Union County
- South central Louisiana - Caldwell, Jackson, Lincoln, Ouachita, Union, and Winn Parishes
- Northwest Louisiana - Bienville, Claiborne, De Soto, Natchitoches, Red River, and Sabine Parishes
- Northeast Texas - Angelina, Cherokee, Nacogdoches, Sabine, San Augustine, and Shelby.
This includes the cities of Arcadia, Bernice, Center, Clarks, Columbia, Coushatta, El Dorado, Farmerville, Gibsland, Grayson, Haynesville, Hemphill, Homer, Jacksonville, Jonesboro, Logansport, Lufkin, Mansfield, Many, Martin, Monroe, Nacogdoches, Natchitoches, Pineland, Pleasant Hill, Ringgold, Rusk, Ruston, San Augustine, Stonewall, Winnfield, and Zwolle.
