Flash Flooding Impacts Shelby County

June 1, 2024 - Several roadways have reported flooding as of 8pm Saturday, June 1, 2024.

Roadways currently reported include:

  • (Update) As of 8:38pm Southview Circle is open again. As of Southview Circle 1/4 mile after the intersection heading south in front of High Roller and C&J AC and Electrical. Barricades are in place.
  • Riggs Street just before the intersection with Greer Street in Center. Barricades are in place.
  • Upper Arcadia Road (FM 2974) is underwater on the westbound side in front of St. Therese Catholic Church.
  • State Highway 87 South near Borders Poultry and FM 414.

Needham Fire Rescue was traveling through Center when they assisted Center Fire Department and blocked both ends of Southview Circle until local fire personnel could arrive. Center Police Officers responded to the scene whre two pickup trucks stalled out during the heavy flooding. Both drivers escaped safely. Hughes Wrecker was on scene to pull those vehicles from the flood waters. Conroe Fire Rescue also proceeded to assist in checking local streets for flooding.

Another pickup truck on Riggs Street stalled out where there was heavy flooding and Center Police Department was on scene there as well. The driver escaped safely from his truck Hopkin's Wrecker Service pulled that vehicle from the water.

Barricades were added to both of these streets to encourage drivers not to enter the unsafe flooded roadway.

Drivers should continue to use caution and avoid driving if not absolutely necessary. "Turn Around, Don't Drown."
