Grapeland Squashes Tenaha at Homecoming Game

October 16, 2026 (Photo Album) - The Grapeland Sandies varsity football team proved to be too much for Tenaha at the Tigers 2026 Homecoming as they took away a 20-12 point win home on Saturday. The win improves the Mustang’s record to 4-2 this season and they stand at 3-0 in District 11 2A-2 conference play. The Tigers are at 3-4 this season and 1-2 in District 11 action.

Tenaha and Grapeland had trouble finding their rhythm in the first quarter; the Sandies started with the ball and had a turnover on downs. A penalty flag against Grapeland saved the Tigers from a turnover as well, but could not find the first down on their own accord. Neither offenses could push through the defensive lines to score the duration of the quarter.

At 3rd and 15 on their first drive of the second quarter, QB Clayton Creech found Darrien Meneffee for a 28-yard rushing pass. But the Tigers had a self-imposed mistake with the failed fourth down conversion. Grapeland had some passing gains on and a face-mask penalty against the Tigers but the Sandies in the redzone, but Tenaha had bigger stops by Kori Miles, D’kayden Moore, Jacobe Calloway and Quentin Goodson. The 33-yard field goal attempt was blocked by the Tigers; 2 minutes left in the half. With 0:16 remaining, Kori Miles intercepted the ball and was brought down at their 37-yard line, but they were unable to go much further; still scoreless at the half.

The Tigers started the second half with the ball; at 3rd & 3, Kori Miles fought through the defensive line to get the first down. Now 4th and 13 for Tenaha, Jacobe Calloway fakes the punt, but a fumble stops their chances of a 1st down. Grapeland’s luck ended on their following drive, unable to score. Tenaha finally makes the first score of the game with a 10-yard passing touchdown to Calhoun. 6:48 remaining in the quarter, Tenaha takes the lead 6-0 after a failed two-point conversion. The Sandies had rushing gains from Ty Howard and Diego Fajardo on their next drive to grind down the field. Tenaha’s #6 brings down Fajardo at the 5-yard line, stopping them from scoring before the end of the quarter.

At the top of the final quarter, the Sandies pushed the ball into the endzone to tie the game after the extra point attempt was not good. On their next possession and 3rd & 15, Fajardo put them in Tiger territory. A 15-yard penalty against Tenaha put the Sandies at the 5-yard line, making it easy for Fajardo to go in for a touchdown. The two-point conversion was good; Grapeland jumped ahead 14-6 with just over 7 minutes left in the ballgame. Calloway got the Tigers deep into Sandies territory, but Grapeland recovered a fumble at the 12-yard line. Fajardo secured the game with an 80-yard rushing touchdown; the new score was 20-6 leaving 3:20 in the game. On their final drive of the game, Creech passed to Goodson to move them across the 50-yard line. At 3rd & 20, Creech finds Meneffee for a Tiger Touchdown. With a minute and half left, neither team scored again. Final score Grapeland on top 20-12.

The Tigers will head to Mount Enterprise on Friday, October 16, 2026 for a 7pm kickoff at Wildcat Stadium. Mount Enterprise is 1-5 overall and 0-2 in the district after a 63-24 loss at Alto last Friday.
