Happenings at Paxton Methodist

May 20, 2019 - Love and peace from our brother Jesus. Sunday was the Fifth Sunday of Easter. This week has sped by.  Most schools have held their graduation ceremonies and kids and teachers are free! We have two nursing home ministries this coming week. On Tuesday we meet at Holiday and on Thursday, Lakeside Assisted Living. Both start at 2:00, and we would love to see you there.

We had almost all our regulars back for Sunday school and church. Hopefully, Joy will feel better next week. The scripture for this lesson was from Romans 11, where Paul tells both Jewish and Gentile followers of Jesus to keep their pride under control. Paul’s metaphor using the olive tree and grafted branches was hard to follow, but the point he was making was a warning to everyone in the young new religion. It is hard to believe that next Sunday will be the last Sunday in May. We will begin a new quarter with new lessons.

The Gospel Lesson for the 5th Sunday of Easter is sometimes referred to as Jesus’ last will and testament or his parting words with those he loved so much. He states that he is giving them a new commandment. They are to love as Jesus has loved them. They are to care for others so that people will see they are followers of Jesus. This is the real plan of salvation for all who love Jesus.

We will donate cans of fruit in the month of May to Community Christian Services. Looking ahead to June, we will collect toilet paper and paper towels. Those will certainly be lighter to carry than the cans of fruit!
