Help Bring Broadband Services to Shelby County; Fill Out County Broadband Survey

Dear Residents of Shelby County:

March 15, 2021 - Shelby County needs your assistance. We have partnered with Connected Nation and the Temple Foundation to gather important information about the need for Broadband services in Shelby County. Responding to this survey will help the entire population of Shelby County.

I encourage you and your family members to take this online survey. There are 9 different surveys that you can complete, please complete each survey that applies to you. For example, I did the home, government, business, and agriculture surveys.

It is very important that we have as many surveys completed as possible. The Federal and State Governments are expected to pledge a large amount of funds to rural America and rural Texas for broadband services in the coming years and Shelby County does not want to be left out.

For your convenience, attached are 2 links, one in English and one is Spanish. If you do not want to use the online survey, you may print it, fill it out, and bring it by the Courthouse at 200 San Augustine Street in Center. Also, I have attached a fact sheet that further explains what we are trying to accomplish.

Thank you so much for your assistance in bringing Shelby County into the 21st Century.

Shelby County Broadband Initiative Fact Sheet

WHO is involved?

The Shelby County Broadband Committee is comprised of local community leaders from various sectors with a common mission of enhancing and expanding broadband access, adoption and use throughout the county for the benefit of local residents and businesses. To that end, the Committee has partnered with Connected Nation Texas and their “Connected Community” program to assess the present state of broadband in Shelby County and establish a broadband planning process and plan to address our current and future broadband needs.

WHAT is being done?

To perform an assessment of Shelby County’s current broadband environment, the Committee will be conducting surveys of local residents, businesses and other organizations across the county. Responses to these surveys will help us better understand the existing resources and capabilities we now have to support our access, adoption and use of broadband technology in our homes and businesses. After a structured evaluation of this assessment, we’ll then develop appropriate action plans and projects to improve our broadband environment most effectively.

WHEN will this take place?

Our Community Broadband Assessment and related surveys will be launched in January 2021 and continue into the May 2021 timeframe. Results from this work will be shared with the public later this summer, followed by additional work to develop a county-wide Action Plan to address identified areas of need.

HOW can you help?
