April 27, 2022 - Hopkins Wrecker Service celebrated a ribbon cutting event at their location on State Highway 7 East on April 21, 2022.
Introducing one of the owners of Hopkins Towing and Recovery, Gay Thomas, was Stephanie Elswick, Shelby County Chamber of Commerce Ambassador President.
"Mark [Hopkins] has been in the wrecker business for 40 years, we've been in the Nacogdoches area predominantly and God has blessed us," said Thomas. "We went to Timpson and we thought we would be in Timpson for a short period of time, and we're in Timpson and we're striving there."
Thomas described who some of the business' customers in Shelby County are, some of which include Tyson Foods, Massey Motor Sports, Center ISD, and SFS.
"We found ourselves, we were traveling from Nacogdoches with a big wrecker to Center to accommodate our customers and realized that that was not right for them to have to wait on us," said Thomas.
According to Thomas, they began searching for the new location two years previous to be a part of Center. At the new location are two smaller sized wreckers including a conventional wrecker and a rollback.
"We have a 50-ton wrecker sitting here and a 30-ton wrecker that's here on the property," said Thomas. "These trucks roll daily, you'll see them going up and down the road."
She said they work accidents in Shelby, and Nacogdoches County as well as in Panola County by request.
Thomas introduced staff who work in Shelby County including Stacy McShane, Jessica Smith, Robert Berry, and Tim Hartman.
Hopkins Wrecker Service has been in the towing business since 1979. Mark Hopkins, manager is a second generation tow operator having been in the industry for over 30 years.
Hopkins Wrecker Service specializes in heavy duty and light towing and recovery services. They offer roadside assistance for all makes and models 24 hours a day. The drivers are fully certified and trained professionals.
