Kim's Kids Corner: Easter Weekend!

April 10, 2020 - It's EASTER weekend! Let's have a weekend full of fun!

Hey kids, ask your parents to gather the supplies and let you decorate your front door or some windows in your home for a stained glass look. Let's color Easter eggs to hunt in your front yard. And let's get in the kitchen with a grown-up and bake some yummy 'Resurrection Rolls' for Easter morning!

"Stained" Glass Windows

  • Use painters tape to make your stained glass window pattern on any window or glass door.
  • Mix kids crayola washable paint with a bit of water and a drop of dawn soap.
  • Now paint each taped section different colors.
  • Once dried, peel of tape for a beauiful "Stained" glass look!
  • This paint will wash off easily when your ready.

Dyeing Easter Eggs with Kool-Aid

  • hard-boiled eggs
  • container for each color
  • Kool-Aid packets (WARNING - if you use grape, it will make gray eggs!)
  • water
  • spoons
  • crayons (if desired)

For each color, empty the Kool-Aid packet into a glass or container. Add 2/3 cup of water to each glass. Stir until the Kool-Aid is dissolved. Do this for each color. They smell amazing! Before placing the eggs in the Kool-Aid egg dye you can write on them with a crayon. Place a hard boiled egg onto a spoon and carefully place it in the Kool-Aid egg dye. Let the egg soak in the Kool-Aid egg dye mixture. Once the egg is the perfect color, take it out and let dry. Do not touch the eggs with your fingers while they are still wet – the color rubs off quite easily. Allow them to dry completely before handling them.

Resurrection Rolls Recipe

16 large marshmallows
1/2 cup butter, melted
1/4 cup sugar
2 tablespoons cinnamon
2 (8-oz.) cans crescent roll dough

Step 1 - Combine sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl.
Step 2 - Unroll crescent roll dough, and separate each roll along perforations.
Step 3 -  Roll marshmallows in melted butter, and then in cinnamon-sugar mixture. Place one coated marshmallow in the middle of an unrolled crescent dough , and roll the marshmallow until completely covered by the dough, pushing in sides as you go. Pinch seams on either end to seal each roll.
Step 4 - Place rolls on a sheet pan, and bake at 350˚ for about 12 minutes.
Step 5 - Immediately after removing rolls from the oven, brush with remaining melted butter and then sprinkle with remaining cinnamon-sugar mixture. Serve warm.

The empty tomb rolls are meant to symbolize Christ not being found in the tomb after he was resurrected. Three days after Jesus had died, an angel of God appeared to one of Jesus’ friends. He told her that Jesus was alive! Jesus’ friends decided to look in the tomb where they had put Jesus’ body, but when they did, it was empty! Jesus had risen! And still today, Jesus is alive. These rolls are sweet, just like the love of God. God made you and he loves you very much. We celebrate Easter because Jesus died and rose again so that we could have a way to Heaven!

Just enjoy the kids, be blessed and stay safe!
