February 6, 2026 — Today, Texas Land Commissioner and Veterans Land Board (VLB) Chairwoman Dawn Buckingham, M.D., is proud to announce that the VLB has approved an increase for the VLB standard land loan amount from $150,000 to $200,000 and the dual-spouse land loan amount from $225,000 to $275,000, effective Monday, February 9, 2026.
"It is an honor to follow up last month's announcement of the $26,250 VLB home loan amount increase with a combined $100,000 increase for our standard and dual-spouse land loan amounts," said Commissioner Buckingham. "There is no greater act of service than pledging to fight for the land you love. We will continue to honor the sacrifices our Veterans made by helping these heroes and their families own a piece of our beloved Lone Star State through the VLB Veterans Land Loan Program."
The VLB Veterans Land Loan Program is the only one of its kind in the nation, allowing Texas Veterans and Military Members to borrow up to $200,000 to purchase land at competitive interest rates, while typically requiring a minimum 5% down payment for tracts of one acre or more.
Two Veterans who are spouses and are individually eligible to participate in the land loan program and satisfy all program qualifications and requirements may be eligible to apply for a land loan to purchase the same tract of land (minimum of one net acre), and may borrow up to $275,000, with a minimum requirement of five percent down.
