Law Enforcement Officials Locate Man Following Attoyac River Incident (Updated)

February 3, 2021 - Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) Game Wardens have been searching the Attoyac River since February 2, 2021 for the location of a man who was lost when a boat capsized.

The incident location was 6.60 miles away from Aiken on the San Augustine County and Nacogdoches County line.

According to Cpt. Mike Hanson, TPWD Game Warden, Don Crawford and his brother Gary "Possum" Crawford had been in a small boat on Tuesday around 2pm when both men leaned over the same side of the boat at the same time and it capsized.

Gary Crawford was able to make it to the bank and when he turned around he could see his brother and shouted to him to "get to the bank." Once he made it back to a vehicle Gary Crawford called for emergency assistance.

Game Wardens had a large quantity of debris to contend with as they utilized sideswipe sonar during their search.

The body of Don Crawford was found in the area where the boat turned over around 1pm Wednesday.

Once he was located, Watson and Sons Funeral home arrived on scene and transported Crawford. 


February 2, 2021 - Law enforcement officials have been searching for a Shelby County man Tuesday, February 2, 2021 who went missing following a boating incident on the Attoyac River just inside Nacogdoches County.

Details have not yet been released by law enforcement; however, two men were apparently on the water when their boat somehow capsized.

Texas Game Wardens responded and were assisted by additional units with the Texas Department of Public Safety, Shelby County Sheriff's Department and other individuals.

Officers have intentions to return to the area to continue the search in the morning February 3, 2021.
