Letter from S.C. Appraisal District Chief Appraiser Bobby Pigg

Robert (Bobby) Pigg – Chief Appraiser of Shelby County Appraisal District to Retire

March 21, 2024 - I will be retiring at the end of March after serving as Chief Appraiser for 27 years. I would like to thank the people of Shelby County and let them know it has been an honor.

The position of Chief Appraiser will be transferred to Eric Lawrence. Eric has an extensive background in property tax appraisals and will no doubt do a great job. He has formerly worked for the firm of Pritchard and Abbott, an appraisal firm hired by Shelby County Appraisal District to perform mineral and industrial appraisals.

I believe the state comptroller’s office has and continues to make the position of chief appraiser a tremendously difficult job. Shelby CAD has received a failing grade in their property value study, which means that I have been responsible in their opinion of undervaluing property in Shelby County since 2021. So, please extend your support to Mr. Lawrence as he tries to satisfy the comptroller’s office.

I have been blessed through the years to have worked with some great people. Our staff has always been second to none and I have been told many times that Shelby CAD’s staff is one of the most helpful and friendly around.

I can’t express my gratitude enough to the people who have tirelessly served as Board of Director members, Appraisal Review Board members, and members of the Ag Advisory Board. I would also like to extend my appreciativeness to all the taxing entity administrators and staff that I have worked with over the years.

Mr. Lawrence and my family recently orchestrated a surprise retirement party and I wish to thank everyone who came out. I was extremely touched and sincerely thank you all.

Shelby County is a great place to live with some of the most generous and loving people in the world. We are all truly blessed to live here.

Sincerely,
Bobby Pigg
