Louisiana Street in Center Scene of Major Crash; Driver Flown to Hospital

September 9, 2016 - A Center man involved in a single-vehicle crash on Louisiana Street in Center was flown by helicopter from the Center Municipal Airport on Friday, September 9, 2016.

Center Police officers were dispatched to the crash scene  across from Creswell Street at 3:15pm and upon determining the driver was trapped, the Center Fire Department was requested.

The firemen used Jaws of Life equipment to extricate the driver and after about 30 minutes were successful in freeing the man from the crumpled white Dodge pickup truck.

According to Center police Sgt. Duane Gordon, Artis Polley, 69, of Center was traveling eastbound when, for an unknown reason, his vehicle left the roadway to the right traveled through a ditch and collided with a tree. Polley sustained major injuries requiring his transport by ACE EMS ambulance to the airport where a landing zone was established for a helicopter.

Life Air Rescue flew Polley from the scene to LSU hospital in Shreveport.
