Meet Four More Authors Attending Shelby County Author's Day

February 15, 2023 - The first annual Shelby County Author’s Day to be held at the John D. Windham Civic Center, 146 Express Blvd, Center, Texas 75935, on Saturday, February 18, 2023, from the hours of 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Meet four of the authors who will be at the first annual Shelby County Author’s Day:

Cheryl A. Hardy

Born and raised for the first 12 years outside of Tenaha, Texas, her family moved to Center when she entered 6th grade. Cheryl felt it was then that she became a full-fledged citizen of Shelby County. Her rural roots always included a fluffy white dog named Cindy replaced with the next white fluffy dog named Cindy, a retired arthritic ranch horse named Flash which didn’t have any “flash” left, numerous cows, pigs, chickens, and a litter of kittens at least twice a year. Cheryl was one of five children raised under the nurturing love and protection of a small-church preacher and a non-wavering mother. It was at Patroon Baptist that Cheryl met and married her true love of 47 years. They have four grown children, and ten “perfect” grandsons! Cheryl now resides in Harrison County in the small community of Harleton where she teaches school to a wonderful group of 6th and 7th graders, teaches swim (this summer will be year 50), has a side gig of decorating cakes, does some container gardening, travels when she can, and writes on occasion. Cheryl wrote this book with the intention of sharing only with her grandsons. She felt a duty to let them have a peek into her childhood and life in general so they would have a glimpse into their own personalities and heritage… and if it brought a chuckle along the way, that’s a true bonus! Word leaked out, and now Cheryl shares these snippets from her life with you. 'The Only Road That Leads Home' by Cheryl A. Hardy

Dan Fleming

Dan Fleming has been involved in teaching the Word of God for over thirty years. He has been active in Bible studies, Sunday School classes and the pulpit for most of those years. His simple and easy to understand style has been one of the reasons people are drawn to his teaching. From the gospel of John, we will see that Jesus used the times of the feasts to teach about the feasts. All the writers of the New Testament were Jews, and they had attended the feasts throughout their lives. When those men were born again, the Holy Spirit taught them the importance of the feasts, and they subtly included them in their writings. 'The Feasts of John' by Dan Fleming

Betty Wood Oglesbee

"Nobody really wanted to leave here, but there was no work here," shared San Augustine native Betty Oglesbee. Co-author with her late husband John of four books of regional history, Oglesbee loves the town and has been involved in historic preservation and economic development efforts for years. She takes pride in the gracious, old homes shaded by towering pines and venerable pecan trees and the historic downtown buildings, including an old jail she helped transform into a handsome law-enforcement museum. She's excited about a $1.5 million grant from the state to reconstruct the Mission Dolores site on the edge of town. 'Letters from Stella' by Betty Wood Oglesbee

Tiffany Bryant

Tiffany Bryant, a retired special education teacher and Arizona State University alumni, has completed her new book 'Teddy the Chef: Adoption Day' which is a cute and captivating story about a dog with a special talent.

“Teddy is a puppy that loves to cook,” says author Tiffany Bryant, “and he helps his foster parents prepare meals. This story is about how Teddy found his forever home.” Published by Page Publishing, Tiffany Bryant’s delightful tale begins on Teddy’s littermate Sammy’s adoption day.
