Nacogdoches Medical Center to Conduct Full-scale Decontamination Drill April 12

Drill with simulation of exposure to toxic chemical

April 12, 2023 - At 1pm today, Nacogdoches Medical Center, along with the Southeast Texas Regional Advisory Council (SETRAC), will conduct a full-scale emergency hazardous material drill that will include:

  • Assembly of the hospital’s Incident Command Center
  • Set up of DECON (decontamination) trailer in front of the hospital
  • Performing of the decontamination process uses in emergency situations
  • Simulation of a mass radiological exposure incident

Jeff Patterson, CEO of Nacogdoches Medical Center, said conducting drills such as these are vital to ensure the hospital’s readiness to establish the incident command structure as outlined by the Emergency Operations Plan. The drills also assess the ability of the DECON team to mobilize and setup the decontamination equipment in a timely manner.

“We are proud to partner with the SETRAC on this drill that will allow us to ensure we are prepared to provide safe decontamination and care in the event an emergency such as this would occur,” Patterson said. “Families put their trust in us and we are committed to helping protect our community in every type of situation,” he said.
