July 24, 2019 Nacogdoches - The surroundings at Nacogdoches Medical Center will be more colorful, bright and visually inspiring with the addition of works of art to be hung on display from renowned local artist David Masterson. Masterson and the DAVMAR Art Gallery in Center, Texas are loaning the hospital several contemporary pieces from Mr. Masterson’s collection that will bring color and beauty to gathering areas of the hospital.
“We have chosen some beautiful pieces that will be on exhibit in NMC Women’s Services,” Philip Koovakada, NMC CEO said. “I first heard about David from a past Board member here at the hospital. A group of NMC employees went to visit the gallery and we were amazed at the work David is producing. We all felt like it was the right fit for our organization.”
Masterson is from East Texas. He and his wife went to Stephen F. Austin. He says loaning the artwork for exhibit at NMC is one way he can give back to his neighbors and his community. “Most people are in the hospital because something is wrong,” Masterson said. “It is my hope that someone sitting in a lobby or waiting area will see my work and find comfort, peace, love, joy or hope, and maybe a few minutes’ respite and relief from the heartache they may be feeling. If my art helps people forget about their troubles for a while and takes them to another place, then I’ve done my job as an artist.”
Many of Masterson’s paintings bring a sense of calm and serenity according to Brandy Roberts, spokesperson for the DAVMAR Art Gallery. “David Masterson is an astounding artist, and we are so excited that his works are going to the hospital.”
This partnership further illustrates the hospital’s commitment to our community and to the patients served.
