Nacogdoches Medical Center Earns 4 Stars in Government's Latest Hospital Rankings

August 5, 2020 - Nacogdoches Medical Center’s primary focus is to provide patients with safe, high-quality care and an exceptional experience. Dedication to these initiatives is reflected in the most recent government review of hospitals across the country. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has released its latest HCAHPS and Overall Star Ratings on its Hospital Compare Website. Based on performance, Nacogdoches Medical Center has achieved a 4-star rating, the highest score in our area and something that less than 25 percent of hospitals across the country are able to accomplish.

“While no one score or rank provides a complete picture of the safety, quality or service provided at a hospital, we support this type of transparency in review and reporting as it helps to drive continued quality improvement and engages patients in their care,” said Jeff Patterson, CEO, Nacogdoches Medical Center. “NMC has earned this high score by striving to deliver safe, high-quality care and an optimal experience to every patient, every time.”

“An award such as this takes into consideration tremendous amounts of data spanning over years,” said Tony Thompson, MD, Chief Medical Officer, Nacogdoches Medical Center. “This is really a testament to the quality of care being provided at Nacogdoches Medical Center. Delivering care at this level requires the collaborative effort between the hospital and medical staff. Here at NMC Health Network we depend on the leadership of our physician partners to make this care possible.”

The overall hospital quality star rating summarizes a variety of measures that are reported on the Hospital Compare website. The measures are divided into these groups or categories: Mortality, Safety of Care, Readmission, Patient Experience, Effectiveness of Care, Timeliness of Care and Efficient Use of Medical Imaging. The measures reflect information on common conditions that hospitals treat, like heart attacks or pneumonia for example. The overall hospital quality star rating shows how well each hospital performed, on average, compared to other hospitals in the U.S. The rating ranges from 1 to 5 stars. The more stars, the better a hospital performed on the available quality measures.
