November 30, 2015 Lufkin, Texas - The Panola men’s basketball won both their games over the weekend at the Guy Davis/Coca Cola Thanksgiving Classic in Lufkin, Texas over the weekend. With the victories, Panola raises their record to 9-3. “With the holiday, hitting the road, and a different routine, our guys found ways to win.” Head Coach Grant McMillan stated. “I am looking forward to this final stretch heading into our Christmas break.” He added.
Game 1 - Panola Vs. Cedar Valley College
On Friday afternoon, Panola defeated Cedar Valley College 70-68. The Ponies took a 38- 30 halftime lead and held off a late surge for the victory. Tope Arikawe (Nigeria) shot a perfect 8 for 8 from the field to lead the Panola offense. Arikawe finished the game with 17 points and 10 rebounds in the win. Terry Holt (Nashville, Tennessee) also scored in double-figures adding 13 points. Charles Tucker (Lansing, Michigan) dished out 10 assists in the victory. As a team, Panola grabbed 46 rebounds and assisted 29 shots.
Game 2 - Panola Vs. Houston Tomball
Saturday, Panola defeated Houston Tomball 96-87. The Ponies only led by 3 at halftime, 43-40 but extended their lead to 14 points on multiple occasions in the second half. Jonathan Wiley (Houston, Texas) went on an offensive outburst scoring 24 points and chasing down 18 rebounds. Charles Tucker recorded a double-double scoring 17 points and dishing out 12 assists. Chan Williams-Bey (Hartford, Connecticut) also scored in double-figures adding 15. As a team, the Ponies shot 53 percent from the field and grabbed a season high 58 rebounds
Panola will next be in action this upcoming Tuesday, December 1st when they Take on Louisiana Christian Prep at home. Tip-off is set for 7:30 PM on the Campus of Panola College.
