Perry Sampson Park Reopening/Re-Dedication Ribbon Cutting

June 15, 2022 - The public is invited to attend the historic Perry Sampson Park Reopening/Re-Dedication Ribbon Cutting on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at 11:00am.

Perry Sampson Park, a 4 acre neighborhood park, was established in the 1980s. For the past 10 years, the City of Center has been working on a rehabilitation plan to improve and upgrade the historic park.

City officials, Tyson representatives and members of the community attended a project ground breaking on August 28th last year. This ground breaking began the construction phase of the rehabilitation project.

This project was funded through a grant from Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife, matched with local funds contributed from Tyson Foods and the City of Center. Permanent recognition of Tyson Foods will be installed on site to commemorate their generous gift which made the project possible. A special thank you to Tyson Foods, a staunch support of our community.

The renovation project included complete replacement of all playground equipment and swings. The existing basketball court was resurfaced with a lighted covered pavilion added to the court. The existing pavilion was refurbished. Handicap-accessible routes to all park features have been built as well as partial perimeter fencing. The park renovation also included, new grass areas, picnic tables, benches, additional trash cans, improved drainage and an iconic entrance.

Perry Sampson Park is located at 806 Garrett Street. The park is open to the public from sunrise until 11pm daily.

The newly renovated Perry Sampson Park enhances an historic recreational facility for Center.
