Protesters in Center Bring Attention to Racial Injustice

June 3, 2020 - Protesters gathered at the front of McDonalds in Center on Hurst Street Tuesday, June 2, 2020, to bring attention to the death of George Floyd and racial injustice.

The country has been witness to protests in large cities, as well as looters taking advantage of the presence of large crowds of people to spread anarchy.

The protesters gathered in the Walmart parking lot and then advanced to the right-of-way in front of the restaurant. At the inception of the protest, the group knelt on the ground and sat in silence in reference of the 8 minutes and 46 seconds Floyd is alleged to have been on the ground with three officers on top of him the night he died in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

After the silent reflection, the protesters began chanting as they held up signs such as, “Standing in Solidarity,” “Black Lives Matter,” “No Justice No Peace,” “Will I Be Next?,” “Silence is Betrayal,” and many more.

The protest continued for two hours with several local residents driving by waving American flags, honked and played music.

Protesters returned to the same spot on Wednesday to continue sharing their message.
