Mission Statement

The purpose of The Friends of Center Roughrider Athletics perpetual fund is to raise money that can be distributed to all female and male sports within the Center Athletic Program. These sports currently include Basketball, Football, Baseball, Softball, Track, Tennis, Powerlifting, Volleyball, Soccer, Golf, Cross Country Running, and Soccer. The goal is to raise $500,000 over the course of five years through donations and various community events. Once the financial threshold has been reached the annual earned proceeds would be distributed to the Center Athletic Department. A secondary goal would be to use the annual earned proceeds to provide scholarships to student athletes graduating high school and looking to continue their education or vocational schooling.

Currently there are 340 student athletes in the program spanning a total of twelve sports. The current demographic makeup of the athletic program is 43% Hispanic, 35% African American, and 22% Caucasian. The need for supplemental funding arises from the fact that current budgets are relatively small to the number of participants and leaves many of our sports inadequately funded. Our goal is to ensure that all sports are adequately funded so they have the proper equipment and safety protocols.

We know that in many cases the singular motivation for our student athletes to attend school is athletics. We believe that a strong and properly equipped athletic program will provide the added incentive for our student athletes to attend school and ultimately graduate. While our goal is to be competitive on the field, we place a much higher value on providing a platform that will allow our student athletes to be competitive in the classroom, in the workforce, and in everyday life.
