October 24, 2024 - The City of Center was recently awarded an Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) through the State Energy Conservation Office (SECO).
The EECBG program provides funding for eligible municipalities for the improvement of government owned public meeting spaces with the goal of increasing energy efficiency. Activity centers, recreational facilities, pavilions, parks, libraries, and event centers that serve as emergency shelters during disasters are all types of facilities covered by the grant. The Senior Nutrition Site located at 124 Haley Drive was approved by SECO for this most recent project. Recently, the city installed new, high-efficiency, LED lighting throughout the building. The City of Center could not have been more pleased to be included in this program.
Grant projects, such as these, provide a two-fold benefit to our community. Not only do they provide financial support to improve and maintain well-loved city facilities, but by reducing energy consumption, the city is, by extension, able to reduce energy costs. One of the fundamental responsibilities of city government is to be wise and effective stewards of public funds and facilities.
City of Center wishes to thank the State Energy Conservation Office for their selection of this project which we believe serves that duty admirably.
