Senior Nutrition Site Receives 2nd Quarter 50 Women Impact Grant

May 15, 2024 - The second quarter recipient of the 50 Women Impact grant was the Senior Nutrition Site. Representatives of 50 Women Impact met at the Senior Nutrition Site (SNS) on Monday, May 13 to present Program Director Dee Mitchell the $11,000 contribution.

According to the Senior Nutrition Site’s grant application, the funds will be used to purchase equipment needed for the kitchen. The site serves as a social gathering place for senior adults but its primary function is to provide on-site meals as well as meals for distribution via the Meals on Wheels program. Having the equipment and utensils needed is critical. The current "wish list" includes: Professional grade pots/pans, professional grade knives, a warming table that works at 100% capacity, a mixer that is sized for handling a large quantity of ingredients, and a large heat lamp to keep food at the correct serving temperature.

With the 2nd quarter donation, the 50 Women Impact group has now given $277,455 to local non-profits. Organizations who have received the 50 Women Impact grant funds are Shelby County Welfare Board; Texas A&M AgriLife; Fannie Brown Booth Memorial Library; Boo’s Battle Support Fund; Shelby County Outreach Ministries; Jon, Macy, & Misty Bush Foundation; Hope Medical; Timpson Food for Thought & Thrift Store; Christian Community Service; Timpson Volunteer Ambulance Service; Shelby County Youth Soccer; Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA); Shelby County Expo; Cole DePriest Scholarship Fund; Shelby County Children’s Advocacy Center; Shelby County Senior Nutrition Site; Cultivate Mental Health; SAKS Of Love; Shelby County Ag Building Project Fund; Happy Tails; Smyra Kids; Shelby County Fire Departments (7); and the Shelby County Historical Commission.
