September Lunch and Learn to Feature Alzheimer's Association Speaker

September 20, 2022 - The Chamber of Commerce Health Care Committee is hosting Lunch and Learn on Wednesday, September 21st at noon at the AgriLife Extension Office. September is World Alzheimer Awareness Month. This month’s speaker will be Crystal Capps with the Alzheimer’s Association. Thank you to McWilliams and Son A/C and Heating for sponsoring the September Lunch and Learn.

Alzheimer’s is a progressive neurological disorder that causes the brain to shrink and brain cells to die. Alzheimer’s is the most common cause of dementia, a continuous decline in thinking, behavioral and social skills that affects a person’s ability to function independently. More than 6 million Americans (55 million people worldwide) are living with Alzheimer’s or another dementia. By 2050, this number is projected to rise to nearly 13 million Americans.

Although medications may temporarily improve or slow the progression of the symptoms, there is no treatment that cures Alzheimer’s disease or alters the disease process in the brain.

Caring for a person with Alzheimer’s can have a significant physical, emotional and financial cost. Becoming well informed about the disease is one important long term strategy.

At the Lunch and Learn, the Presentation will include: Alzheimer’s in Texas and Alzheimer’s in the workforce. Crystal Capps will also talk about the upcoming fundraising Walks.

The Lunch and Learns are open to everyone. Lunch is provided. Please RSVP to 598-7744 or to 598-3682. For information contact the Chamber offices at 598-3682 or email info@shelbycountychamber.com.
