Sewer in the Pond by Doug Fincher

“Watch and pray that you enter not into temptation…” Matt. 26:41

January 10, 2021 - As we were growing up, my bothers and I spent a lot of time at Weaver’s Pond in Center, Texas. It was an ideal fishing and swimming hole and was only a ten minute walk from where we lived. The little pond was teeming with perch, bass and a considerable number of water moccasins. For several years it provided some welcome meals for our large and sometimes hungry family.

When I recently returned for my first-in-thirty-years look at the Pond, I hardly recognized it. The old pecan trees were familiar, but the pasture’s dense growth of tallow trees and berry vines made it difficult to find. The Pond was stagnant and thick undergrowth covered the banks of our once beautiful paradise. City employee Lee McKenzie told me later that everything in it died after the City’s Sewer Main ruptured and flowed into it.

God will forgive us for allowing sewer to flow into our Christian lives, but its best if we don’t allow it in to begin with. Being forgiven doesn’t mean that we won’t continue to suffer from the pollution…

… and an ounce of prevention is worth a ton of cleanup.
