SH 7, FM 711 Scene of Major Two-vehicle Crash

August 16, 2021 - State Highway 7 West was the scene of a two-vehicle crash Monday, August 16, 2021, 

According to Texas Department of Public Safety State Trooper Taylor Buster, at 2:20pm a black 2021 Hyundai Elantra driven by Ashley Corrien Box, 39, of Center was westbound on State Highway 7 West in the inside lane, when she stopped to turn onto FM 711.

At that time a white 2019 Ford 3500 driven by Jerry Trent Rains, 34, of Lufkin was also westbound in the inside lane. The Ford failed to control speed and collided with the rear end of the Hyundai, causing major damage to both vehicles. The Hyundai was spun around and came to rest facing east. The truck continued onto the eastbound side of the roadway where it came to rest in the outside lane facing west.

Box was transported by ambulance to Nacogdoches Medical Center -Shelby Emergency Department for treatment of possible injury.

Rains wasn't reported to have been injured in the crash. He was issued a citation for failure to control speed.

Center Fire Department, Sheriff's Department Deputies and West Shelby County Volunteer Fire Department helped direct traffic.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
