SH 87 South Scene of Single-Vehicle Crash During Rain

December 9, 2021 - State Highway 87 South just outside of Shelbyville was the scene of a single-vehicle crash Monday, December 6, 2021, during inclement weather.

According to Texas Department of Public Safety State Trooper David Shields a maroon 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 driven by Emerald Valencia, 26, of Shelbyville was northbound on State Highway 87 South just past CR 2050. 

At that time the GMC was traveling at an unsafe speed for roadway conditions and veered off the roadway to the right before striking a tree with the front right of the vehicle.

The truck came to rest on the shoulder facing the roadway.

Valencia, a three-year-old minor child and a one-year-old minor child were all transported to Nacogdoches Medical Center - Shelby Emergency Department for treatment of possible injuries.

No citations were issued at the time of the crash and the incident remains under investigation.

Center Fire Department personnel and Shelby County Sheriff's Department Deputies assisted at the scene with traffic control.
