SH7 West Scene of Single-vehicle Fatality Crash

May 1, 2023 - Emergency personnel responded to a single-vehicle crash Sunday, April 30, 2023, which resulted in the death of the driver involved.

When West Shelby County Volunteer Fire Department personnel arrived on the scene of the incident near CR 1245, they requested Jaws-of-Life due to the condition of the vehicle involved.

Center Fire Department personnel were dispatched to the scene with Jaws-of-Life and Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputies also arrived to assist; however, the driver of the vehicle was discovered to have perished. Fire personnel utilized Jaws-of-Life to help extricate the driver from the vehicle.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), Troopers are investigating a fatal crash that occurred Sunday, April 30, 2023, on State Highway 7, approximately 16 miles west of Center.

The preliminary investigation indicates that at approximately 9:10pm, a black 2006 Nissan Murano driven by Demarcus Hunt, 32, of Mansfield, La., was traveling west and reportedly traveled off the road to the left and struck several trees.

The driver was pronounced deceased on scene by Donna Hughes, Justice of the Peace for Precinct 1. 

This is an ongoing investigation, and no further information is available at this time.

Watson & Sons Funeral Home transported Hunt from the scene. The vehicle was towed from the scene by wrecker. EMS personnel were also on location.
