SH7 West Scene of Two-Vehicle Crash (Updated)

March 8, 2019 - State Highway 7 West just under one mile from Loop 500 was the scene of a major two-vehicle Friday, March 8, 2019 at around 2:15pm.

Emergency crews were quick to respond and kept traffic diverted from the scene while fire and ambulance personnel moved all involved in the incident to ambulances.

It appeared a silver Nissan Altima passenger car collided with the rear of a maroon Ford Expedition.

According to Texas Department of Public Safety State Trooper Keith Jones, a maroon 2008 Ford Expedition driven by Chastity Wilkins, 34, of Center, with a 9-year-old female passenger was westbound on State Highway 7 West when Wilkins stopped to make a left turn into a private driveway.

At that time, a silver 2018 Nissan Altima driven by Johnny Ray Shedd, 38, of Center with passengers Nicol Marie Shedd, 48, and Martha Ann Shedd, 72, was westbound on State Highway 7 West when he failed to control speed and collided with the rear of the Ford.

The Nissan came to a stop in the inside westbound traffic lane and the Ford traveled across the eastbound traffic lanes into the eastbound shoulder where it came to a stop facing west.

All occupants in both vehicles were transported by ambulances from Center and San Augustine to Nacogdoches Medical Center - Shelby Emergency Department for treatment.

The Center Fire Department and Shelby County Sheriff's Department assisted at the scene with traffic control and EMS.

Shedd was issued a citation for failure to control speed

The scene was cleared at 3:03pm.
