September 1, 2016 - The Shelby County Chamber of Commerce seeks recipes for the Chicken Cooking Contest, sponsored by Tyson Foods, that will be held on super Wednesday, September 28, 2016 immediately following the 40th East Texas Poultry Festival Doo Dah parade sponsored by Center Tire. The event will be held on the east side of the historic downtown Center square and is open to all county residents. In the event of inclement weather, the event will move to the active Shelby County Courthouse community room.
The Chicken Cooking Contest is open for participation in three categories, Youth (ages 8 – 14), High School Youth (ages 14-17) Adult (age 18 and above). Contestants will be provided with approximately 36 inches of covered presentation area to decorate. Participants are asked to prepare their recipe to create 25-30 sample size servings and bring serving utensils. Participants must be set up before the Doo Dah Parade in order to maintain the time schedule. All participants must have some type of cover for their dish.
Chicken Cooking Contest awards and trophies will be presented in each category with First Place $100, Second Place $50 and Third Place $25. All cooking awards will be presented at the conclusion of the Rooster Revel Auction at 6:00 p.m. Event attendees can purchase Food Sampling tickets for $5.00 and ticket holders can vote in the People’s Choice Award and Best Dressed Table categories.
To be eligible for the cooking contest, participants must submit their recipes to the Chamber office by the entry deadline Monday, September 19, 2016 by email at info@shelbycountychamber.com, postal mail or delivered to 100 Courthouse Square, A-101, Center, TX 75935.
