Shelby County Firemen Respond to FM 711 Fatal Crash

September 7, 2016 - West Shelby County Volunteer firemen and the Center Fire Department responded to an early morning crash on FM 711 September 7, 2016 at 7:20am. The crash was dispatched in Shelby County; however, was later discovered to be in San Augustine County. Regardless of the location, the firemen responded in efforts to come to the aid of someone in need.

The firemen arrived at the single-vehicle crash 4 1/2 miles north of San Augustine, but the crash had taken the life of the driver. Traffic control was initiated by firemen at the scene while Texas Department of Public Safety Cpl. Jimmy Faulkner investigated the crash.

ACE EMS and San Augustine County EMS responded to the scene and were there until Billy Williams, Justice of the Peace Precinct 3, arrived to pronounce.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the preliminary crash investigation indicates a 2008 Kia passenger car driven by Lasharvia Edwards, 16, of San Augustine, was traveling south on FM 711 when the vehicle drove off the roadway to the right, then over corrected to the left, crossed the roadway, struck a tree and overturned. Edwards was not secured by a safety belt and was ejected from the vehicle.

This crash remains under investigation. No additional information is available at this time.
