Shelbyville Band Performs at UIL, Earns Sweepstakes Award

April 30, 2019 - The Shelbyville High School band performed at UIL Region 21 Concert and Sightreading Contest in Bullard, Tx on Thursday, April 25. The band performed three prepared pieces and sight-read a piece for a panel of judges.

Concert judges' comments included: "Nice style and dynamics," "Many mature and focused tone qualities in this ensemble," "Excellent March style," and "Beautiful clarinet tones and solid percussion."

Sight-reading judges' comments included: "Great!," "Good sounding band!," "Good job listening and balancing to the melody!," and "Band plays with confidence. I enjoyed your performance."

At the conclusion of the contest, the Shelbyville HS Band earned the UIL Sweepstakes Award.

The UIL Sweepstakes Award is designed to reward excellence in the three most measurable aspects of public school band curriculum - marching, prepared concert performance, and the ability to sight-read music 'on the spot.'

The Dragon Band received 1st Division in all of these contest which marked the 10th consecutive SWEEPSTAKES award for the band.
