State Department Notifies District Clerk of Pastafarianism

April 1, 2017 - The Shelby County District Clerk Lori Oliver and other employees working at the Shelby County Courthouse donned spaghetti strainers on Friday, March 31, 2017 after receiving notice of a pseudo religion which has recently developed - Pastafarianism.

The District Clerk's office, as an acceptance agent for the U.S. Department of State, was advised if they received an individual who applies for a passport citing they are followers of the "Great Spaghetti Monster" and represent themselves by wearing spaghetti strainers on their head to indeed accept their applications. An acceptance agent isn't to determine the merits of any particular religion or religious beliefs of applicants but to follow normal procedures in screening applicants for fraud concerns.
