August 16, 2023 - The sponsor and staff of Loblolly magazine have graciously agreed to conduct an interview with JT Rhodes at Timpson Area Genealogy and Heritage Society's meeting Wednesday, August 16, at 2pm, in the annex of Timpson Public Library.
The Loblolly, a product of a student led organization at Gary School, is celebrating 50 years of publishing the magazine documenting the history and culture of East Texas. They will be reprinting their first edition (Vol 1, #1), from spring of 1973. This issue featured the musings of Monroe Brannon and Tessie Cozart. The current, 37th volume, under the direction of Michael Powell, Cindy Deloney, and others, will feature stories on how the performing arts have evolved in Panola County.
Mr. Rhodes, a long time farmer in the Rosehill community, has witnessed much of the evolution of agriculture in our area. There are very few people whose memory of life around Timpson can span the decades as does the memory of Mr. Rhodes. Everyone is invited to come support Mr. Rhodes and the Loblolly staff at our meeting.
