The Tenaha Roarin’ Band from Tigerland Competes in State OPS Competition!

August 1, 2016 - The Tenaha Roarin' Band from Tigerland was named the State “Runner-Up” for class 2A in both the March Category and Concert Category of the 2016 State ATSSB OPS recording contest! The band’s recordings of "General Lee March” by Karl King and “Broken Bow” by Carl Strommen were recorded at the Region 21 UIL Concert & Sight Reading Contest on April 26th of this year.  They were then submitted to the OPS (Outstanding Performance Series) contest in May. Both recordings advanced from the region level to the area level, and then all the way to state finals back in June. State finals was judged on July 21, 2016 in San Antonio, and Tenaha came out as “Runner-Up” in both categories! The Tenaha Roarin’ Band from Tigerland has also won this competition in the march category on three previous occasions (2010, 2011, & 2015).  However, the band has never had two recordings place as high as runner-up in both the march and concert categories in the same year!  This is a rare and notable achievement!  Great job band students!  Your hard work was rewarded.  Also, thanks to all the clinicians that helped us this year (Dale Stelzer, John Young, Doice Grant, Dr, Jeff Mathews, Scott Rhame, Lee Larry, and Guy Wallace). Most importantly, a big "Thank You" goes to the Tenaha administration, staff, and parents for all your support!
