Timpson Frontier Days Filled with Activities; Cake Auction Raises Just Under $11,000

The pet show had several participants who all were awarded with a variety of great prizes.

July 3, 2017 - Album1, Album2, Album3, Album4 - Timpson Frontier Days 2017 has come to an end with all of the fun and frivolity of the event leaving lasting memories for everyone attending.

The festival covers several days with Saturday, July 1, 2017 being the main event. The parade began just after 10am and was led initially by Marilyn Corder, Timpson Area Chamber of Commerce (TACC), followed by the Cowboy of the Year float which also carried Lynda K. Russell, Grand Marshal of the parade, and a side-by-side carrying Debra Pate Smith, Timpson Mayor, and Paul Smith, Timpson Area Chamber of Commerce President.

Emergency personnel with the Timpson Volunteer Fire Department and Timpson Volunteer Ambulance Service drove through the parade followed by a myriad of other parade floats, vehicles, bicycle riders and horses. Once the parade completed it's route, the Cowboy of the Year float returned to the big tent where parade announcers Tracy Broadway and Joyce Moore introduced the East Texas Press Cowboy of the Year representatives. Announcing the winners on behalf of East Texas Press was LeAnne K. Rafferty, 123rd Judicial District Judge.

"This means that you actually live by a high standard of morals, you have a code of conduct that we recognize here in Texas," said Judge Rafferty. "You're a man of integrity and you just do a whole lot for your community. So it's more about the way of life and the way you've lived your life in helping others, always doing the right things and having a lot of integrity and that's why these men are gonna be recognized here today."

Cowboy of the Year recipients included Jake Metcalf, Shelby County Constable Precinct 4, Tenaha; David Koonce, Center; Gary Green, Timpson; Bob Barton, Garrison; Luke Garrett, Joaquin; and Walter Craft, Gary.

Bill Hudman was all smiles when he was the winner of the $500 drawing at the car show.The opening ceremonies were then held on the main stage led by Paul Smith, TACC President, accompanied by William Dee Daniel, Pastor of First Baptist Church of Timpson, who gave the opening prayer; Sherry Strahan, who sang the National Anthem; and Debra Pate Smith, who recited the Pledge of Allegiance.

During the opening ceremonies, the bicycle judging was ongoing at the Land Office Real Estate office and was handled by Jerry and Patty Wood. The winners were then announced by Broadway and they were Caitlyn Madden, first place; Jededia Lowe, second place; and Isaiah Hall, 3rd place.

Paul Smith, Timpson Area Chamber of Commerce President, and Debra Pate Smith, Timpson Mayor, handled the opening ceremonies during the 2017 Frontier Days.

The pet show was overseen by Marsha Tomlinson and Tracy Lee at the Timpson Volunteer Ambulance Service tent. The winners of each division is as follows: Longest Tail - Branton Lee; Shortest Tail - Shadow Rhodes; Most Spots - Jason Rhodes; Longest Ears - Brittany Lee; and Most Unusual - Riley Polley. Horses: First Place - Branton Payne; Second Place - Chris Lee; Third Place - Mary Ann Lee. Dogs 13 and Over: First Place - Dixie Lee; Second Place - Shadow Rhodes; Third Place - Jason Rhodes and Fourth Place - Alesia Stephens.

Other: First Place - Brittany Lee; Second Place - Caesyn Lee; Third Place - Riley Polley. Dressed the Cutest: First Place - Devin Snider; Second Place - Alesia Stephens; Third Place - Shadow Rhodes; Fourth Place - Jason Rhodes. Dogs 12 and Under: First Place - Caesyn Lee; Second Place - Devin Snider; Third Place - Mary Ann Lee; Fourth Place - Trinity Spencer; Fifth Place - Mallery Puckett; and Sixth Place - Kai Polley.

The parade winners were announced and they were First Place - East Texas Cowboy of the Year float; Second Place - Timpson High School Twirlers; Third Place - Timpson Junior High Cheerleaders. Following the parade, the classic cars that traveled in the parade lined up on Austin Street for judging.

David Pate announced the winners of the car contest, first with the motorcycle division: First Place - Bill Hudman; Second Place - Jason Terry; Third Place - Kent Brown. Truck division: First Place - Phil and Bret Kate Behrens; Second Place - Randy Mora; Third Place - J.T. Rhodes received by Treva Rhodes. Car division: First Place - Linnie Crump; Second Place - Tommy Miller received by Colleen Miller; Third Place - Jeanie Rhodes. People's Choice: Jason Terry. Winner of the $500 drawing was Bill Hudman.

Winners of the 42 tournament Dee Daniel and Chad Huckaby each were the recipients of a YETI cooler.

The winner of the basket was Betsy Fuller and the winner of the crossbow was James Weaver. A 42 tournament hosted by the fire department was held all day at the fire hall. In the end first place was won by Dee Daniel and Chad Huckaby who each walked away with a Yeti cooler. Second place was won by Greg and Jill Hailey.

Once the majority of the days activities completed, at 6pm an audience gathered to watch the performance of the Timpson cheerleaders and twirlers. Following their demonstration, Curtis Daniel performed on stage leading up to the annual Frontier Days cake auction.

Once the cake auction completed Leavin' Sundown with James Bonamy took to the stage and gave the final performance of Frontier Days.
