Timpson Residents, Visitors Celebrate Frontier Days 2016

July 4, 2016Album1, Album2, Album3, Album4 - The 2016 Timpson Frontier Days was held this past Saturday, July 2 on the downtown Timpson square. Saturday events kicked off with the parade, which began its journey on Bear Drive and onto Bremond Street before traveling on the Timpson square.

As is tradition, leading the parade are members of local law enforcement and emergency personnel. The parade was filled with classic cars including many of the members of the Shelby County Cruisers car club. Several other vehicles in the parade carried Timpson Bear cheerleaders and twirlers. Announcers/commentators of the parade were Tracy Broadway and Joyce Moore.

A large number of decorated bicycles were ridden in the parade and were entered in the bicycle decorating competition. All variety of all-terrain vehicles were also driven in the parade.

A herd of horses trailed through the parade with riders on horseback, as well as horses and mules pulling carts and wagons. This was when the parade came to an immediate halt and Allison Harbison, Shelby County Judge, announced this year's 2016 Cowboys and Cowgirl of the Year. Once they were announced, the parade was allowed to continue.

Following up the end of the parade was newly appointed Shelby County Constable Precinct 5 Robert Hairgrove.

Several events began immediately following the parade including opening ceremonies, the bicycle decorating competition, pet show, car show and 42 tournament. Welcoming everyone to the event was Paul Smith, Timpson Chamber of Commerce President, and Debra Smith, Timpson Mayor. During the ceremony, Sherri Strahan sang The Star Spangled Banner.

Marsha Tomlinson organized the pet show and amassed a large number of prizes for all who participated.
