Tribute to Dr. Tatum from Joan Garrett

Dr. Charles Tatum and Joan Garrett at a Prairie View Alumni Luncheon in Houston

February 25, 2020 - Saturday was a sad day for me but at the same time great joy to see that someone's dream come true. I worked with Dr. Tatum in Houston for many years as a temporary volunteer secretary. We went through many papers he had collected through his many years of academia and travels to sort them into booklets of similar contents, which will soon be combined and found in a book authored by Dr. Ken Hinson.

As we did that, he continued to encourage me to write my story. He being an author of many books wanted people to do the same. I am thankful I had the chance to work with him, go to lunch with him while he could, and hear his historical facts and sometimes jokes. 2018 was his last Christmas letter I wrote from his dictation of many years. I wrote, addressed from a long list, and mailed to many family and friends. Dr Tatum passed in April 2019, and will live on in my heart and I take this time to wish him a Happy Heavenly Birthday today and encourage others to "tell your story."
