Two Shelby County Cross Country Teams Advance to State Championship

October 24, 2023 - Two Shelby County Cross Country teams represented their home towns well by advancing to the State Championship on Tuesday, October 24 at Kate Barr-Ross Park in Huntsville, Texas in the UIL Region III 2A Cross Country Championship.

The Shelbyville Cross Country team placed 2nd overall in the girls 2 mile run and the Tenaha Cross Country team took 1st place in the boys 5K run. Both teams are state qualifiers and will compete in the Cross Country State Championships Friday, November 3rd and Saturday, November 4th in Round Rock, Texas.

Emily Pharris, senior, placed 1st with a time of 12:25.2
Cori Lawson, freshman, placed 7th with a time of 13:32.1
Treana Macks, senior, placed 21st with a time of 14:15.4
Bailee Whiteside, junior, placed 59th with a time of 15:26.2
Jamarria Wright, senior, placed 66th with a time of 15:35.5
McKenzie Gillaspie, junior, placed 131st with a time of 17:21.7
Lily West, freshman, placed 137th with a time of 17:34.1

Jairo Hernandez, junior, placed 4th with a time of 17:22.7

Marco Gonzales, sophomore, placed 19th with a time of 18:09.5
