USDA Forest Service Legal Notice: Sabine National Forest Tornado Damage Project

SABINE NATIONAL FOREST TORNADO DAMAGE PROJECT. USDA FOREST SERVICE, NATIONAL FORESTS AND GRASSLANDS IN TEXAS, SABINE NATIONAL FOREST, MILAM, TEXAS.

The publication date of notice of decision for this project in the Shelby County Today initiates the public notice for implementation of Sabine National Forest Tornado Damage Project under the Texas Wind Event EA signed decision. On April 25, 2019, The Sabine National Forest was impacted by a tornado storm event damaging approximately 105 acres of mature timber in compartments 38, 39, and 41. The damaged area is located approximately 13 miles southeast of Shelbyville, TX, in Shelby County. The Sabine National Forest will implement recovery actions authorized in the National Forests in Texas Wind Event EA and Decision Notice signed in (September) 2013. Implementation of this decision may include fuel reduction by the removal of timber (i.e. salvage sale contracts), RCW habitat improvement treatments, mulching, lop and scatter, prescribed burning, and any other resource treatments identified in the 2013 decision notice.
