April 8, 2026 - Today, Texas Land Commissioner and Veterans Land Board (VLB) Chairwoman Dawn Buckingham, M.D., issued a statewide CALL OUT for Veterans to contact the Texas General Land Office(GLO) to share their unique stories of service with the VLB through the GLO's Voices of Veterans Oral History Program.
"As VLB Chairwoman, it is an honor to help serve our courageous Veterans by preserving and honoring their legacies through the Voices of Veterans oral history program," said Commissioner Buckingham. "This incredible program is made possible by the hard work of the VLB and GLO staff who record and archive these precious stories for future generations. As we near recording our 600th story of bravery and sacrifice, I encourage Veterans across the state to contact us and be a part of Texas history."
VLB's James Dillon conducts an interview with a Veteran for the Voices of Veterans Oral History Program
The GLO's Voices of Veterans Program records the stories of Texas Veterans through their time in service and after returning home from combat. The stories are then permanently archived in the Office of Veterans Records at the GLO, where they join the historical documents of other Texas heroes such as Sam Houston, Davy Crockett, Jim Bowie, and William Barret Travis.
To date, the Voices of Veterans Program has captured nearly 600 stories that are available to researchers, historians, genealogists, and the public. These invaluable records inspire future generations and remind us of our Veterans' sacrifices.
