June 20, 2016 - This month, we celebrate and remember Illan Ramon. Ramon was born on June 20, 1954 in Tel Aviv, Israel. Ramon graduated from high school in 1972. In 1974, Ramon graduated as a fighter pilot from the Israel Air Force Flight School. He was promoted to the rank of Colonel and assigned as Head of Operational Requirement for Weapon development and Acquisition in 1994. Colonel Ramon accumulated over 3,000 flight hours on the A-4, Mirage III-C, and F-4 and over 1,000 flight hours on the F-16.
In 1997, Ramon was selected as a Payload Specialist. He was designated to train as prime for a Space Shuttle mission with a payload that included a multispectral camera for recording desert aerosol. Ramon flew on Columbia's mission STS-107, logging 15 days, 22 hours and 20 minutes in space. Happy Birthday Illan Ramon!

Mr. James Dean returned and has been working on completing the installation of the simulator. It will be a one-of-a kind simulator and we are very grateful to Mr. Dean for his donation to our museum.

The hours of operation for the Patricia Huffman Smith NASA “Remembering Columbia” Museum are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. We are closed on Sundays and Mondays, however, tours will be given by appointment only on these days.
