August 31, 2022 - World War II came to an end with the formal surrender of the Japanese on September 2, 1945 aboard the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay and this day has become known as VJ Day (Victory over Japan).

Shelby County Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8904 and the Auxiliary will hold an observance on Friday, September 2, 2021 at the Veterans Memorial on the grounds of the Historic Courthouse in Center.

August 30, 2022 - Unfortunately, the VJ Day program planned at the Northwest Louisiana Veterans Home in Bossier City is cancelled. Thank you to all those who were planning to attend and honor the eight World War II Veterans that reside at the veterans home.

July 25, 2022 - Cecil A. Armstreet was born March 24, 1919 in the town of Joaquin, Shelby County, Texas, the only child of Ada Marie Largent and Dewey Eugene Armstreet. His parents were married in Shelby County on October 13, 1917 but later divorced and each remarrying giving Cecil five half-siblings.

July 6, 2022 - A Presidential Proclamation Honoring the Victims of the Tragedy in Highland Park, Illinois has been issued. All flags of the United States should be flown at half-staff until sunset, July 9, 2022.
