September 17, 2026 - State Highway 87 South was the scene of a single-vehicle crash incident on September 15, 2026, at around 9pm.

Emergency personnel with the Shelbyville Volunteer Fire Department (SVFD) and Shelby County Sheriff’s Department were the initial responders to the location near CR 2156.

SVFD personnel enacted extrication procedures and using Jaws-of-Life were able to help free the driver of the vehicle and help move her to an ambulance.

September 16, 2026 - The Shelby County Commissioners set the number of reserve deputies for the Shelby County Sheriff's Department to 10 deputies during their September 9, 2026, meeting.

Shelby County Judge Allison Harbison explained that at their appointment, they must file an oath of office, then execute and file a bond in the amount of $2,000 payable to the sheriff. The open bond must be filed with a county clerk's office. 

September 15, 2026 - The Center Fire Department responded to a grass and woods fire on FM 2468 at the intersection of SL 500 at 2:20pm on Monday, September 15, 2026.

September 9, 2026 - The Shelby County Commissioners have lifted the burn ban during court held on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.

It is encouraged that anyone planning to burn let your volunteer fire department know, and ask that they be on standby.

Commissioner Tom Bellmyer commented there is a lot of opportunity for common sense burning.

Caution when burning is advised.

September 4, 2026 - The US Highway 59 exit ramp at the intersection with George Bowers Drive in Tenaha was the scene of a major two-vehicle crash Friday, September 4, 2026.

Multiple agencies responded to the crash location to come to the aid of those involved.
