Roadways in Joaquin Reported to Be Flooding

July 26, 2024 - While Shelby County remains under a flood advisory, FM 139 just south of State Highway 7 in the Joaquin area, and U.S. Highway 84 going through town are reported to both be flooded, as of 8am, July 26, 2024.

Travelers are encouraged to use extreme caution, slow down, and choose alternate routes.

July 25, 2024 - FM 139 near FM 2747 was the scene of a single-vehicle fatality crash July 25, 2024.

Emergency responders were dispatched to the location around 12-noon including law enforcement, fire department, and emergency medical services.

Commissioners Recognize $400,000 in Interest; Burke Center, County Enter Into Agreement

July 23, 2024 - The Shelby County Commissioners recognized $400,000 in interest to the budget during their meeting held June 26, 2024.

The commissioners considered a FY2024 budget amendment to recognize additional interest income and increase the courthouse repairs expense budget.

Clint Porterfield, County Auditor, outlined three projects that total around $350,000 in expense to the county.

DPS Investigating Fatal Crash on US Hwy 59 Near Timpson (Update)

July 22, 2024 - Update: DPS has informed, the driver of the Hyundai is identified as 30-year-old Carmen Arjona of Timpson.

June 28, 2024 - Emergency responders headed to the location of a major two-vehicle crash at the intersection of U.S. Highway 59 and FM 2667 outside of Timpson at around 1:35am on June 28, 2024.

Timpson Volunteer Fire Department personnel were assisted at the scene by Tenaha Volunteer Fire Department and the roadway was shutdown for emergency personnel to address the needs of the situation.

SC Grand Jury Indicts 23 Cases Including Alleged Child Predator

July 18, 2024 - A Shelby County Grand Jury handed down 23 indictments on Wednesday, July 16, 2024. The grand jury was impaneled for the July 2024 term of the 123rd/273rd Judicial District Courts. Five of the indictments were for James Alan Burke, the target of an undercover investigation of online solicitation of a minor that resulted in his arrest on March 3, 2023.
