Former Shelbyville Dragon loses Life in Crash

November 4, 2018 - The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) investigated a one-vehicle crash early this morning on SH 147, about three miles south of San Augustine.

The preliminary crash investigation indicates at approximately 12:30 a.m., a 2014 Chevrolet passenger car was traveling north on SH 147. The driver was reportedly traveling at an unsafe speed when the vehicle drove off the roadway to the right, overcorrected to the left and crossed back over the roadway to the left and struck a tree.

DPS Ramping Up Move Over/Slow Down Enforcement

October 16, 2018 - The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is conducting enforcement efforts across the state focusing specifically on violations of the state’s Move Over/Slow Down law. These periodic enforcement operations by DPS Troopers are planned throughout the year at various locations in Texas, with several operations planned in October. Operations will take place in the Houston, Bryan, Rosenberg, Conroe, Liberty, Cleveland, Huntsville, Beaumont, Matagorda, Columbus, Lufkin, and Jasper areas throughout the day on Wednesday, October 17.

DPS Reports Fatal Crash on State Highway 7

September 4, 2018 - Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers investigated a one-vehicle crash on State Highway 7 yesterday morning that reportedly occurred the previous night, about one half mile east of County Road 1211.

The preliminary investigation indicates at approximately 10:30 p.m., on September 2, a 2008 Pontiac passenger car was traveling east. For reasons not yet determined by Troopers, the driver drove across the westbound lanes and struck a tree. The crash was not discovered until approximately 8:30 a.m., on September 3.

Center Man Involved in Trinity County Crash

May 8, 2018 - Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers investigated this afternoon a three-vehicle crash on SH 94 about one mile west of Apple Springs. The preliminary crash investigation indicates at about 2:45 p.m., a 1997 Ford passenger car was traveling east on SH 94. 

The Ford reportedly crossed over the center of the roadway and struck a 2018 Toyota passenger car that was traveling west. Moments after the initial crash the Ford was then struck by an eastbound 2002 Volvo truck-tractor semi-trailer. The truck-tractor then overturned in the roadway. 

DPS Works Fatal Crash in Nacogdoches

May 8, 2018 - Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers investigated Monday morning, May 7, 2018 a two vehicle fatality crash at the intersection of SH 21 and Loop 34.

The preliminary crash investigation indicates at approximately 7:20 a.m., a 1994 Nissan passenger car was traveling east on SH 21. A 2014 GMC SUV was traveling west on SH 21 and crossed the eastbound lane and struck the Nissan head-on. Initial reports indicate the GMC was attempting to travel onto Loop 34.

Shelby County Man Sent to Hospital Following San Augustine Crash

April 2, 2018 - Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers investigated a one-vehicle roll-over crash on FM 3329 near SH 103 on March 31.

The preliminary crash investigation indicates at approximately 8:20 p.m., a 2003 Toyota pickup was traveling north on FM 3329 when the truck drove off the roadway to the right, over corrected to the left and overturned off the west side of the roadway; ejecting the driver.

DPS, Driver's License Offices Closed Due to Weather

January 16, 2018 - Due to weather concerns, Texas Department of Public Safety area offices in the following counties, including Driver License offices will be closed Tuesday, January 16, 2018.

  • San Augustine County
  • Shelby County
  • Trinity County

DPS Launches Enhanced Traffic Enforcement for Holidays

December 21, 2016 AUSTIN – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is urging drivers to help make the holidays safer by driving sober and using extra caution. In an effort to protect travelers on our roadways, DPS Troopers, as well as local law enforcement across the state, will conduct traffic patrols throughout the holiday weekends of Dec. 23 – 26 and Dec. 31 – Jan. 1, looking for drunk drivers, speeders, seat belt violators and other dangerous drivers.
