Motorcycle Crash on CR 2865 Results in Driver Fatality

September 20, 2022 - Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers investigated a fatal motorcycle crash on County Road 2865, approximately 15 miles south of Center, that occurred Sunday, September 18, 2022. 
 
The preliminary investigation indicates that at approximately 7:45pm, a 2013 Honda dirt bike motorcycle was traveling east. It is reported that the driver lost control of the motorcycle while traveling around a left-hand curve and traveled into the ditch where it crashed. 
 

DPS Locates, Arrests Driver in Hit-and-Run Involving 4-Year-Old Child

September 5, 2022 - As a result of the continued investigation, the vehicle and driver involved in this crash was located in Center (Shelby County).

The driver has been identified as 85-year-old Edward Mora from Center. Mora was driving a 2009 Chevrolet pickup at the time of the crash.

Mora was transported and booked into the Shelby County Jail for fail to stop and render aid with serious bodily injury, a third degree felony.

This is an on-going investigation. No additional information is available at this time.

DPS Offers Tips and Resources Ahead of New School Year

August 13, 2022 – As the new school year nears, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) reminds drivers to use extra caution in and around school zones and neighborhoods. This includes knowing the Texas laws about driving near stopped school buses and not using cell phones when you’re behind the wheel. It also means utilizing the many safety resources available to parents, school staff and students.

Fatal Crash Near Martinsville Takes Life of Center Woman

June 2, 2022 – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is investigating a fatal crash in Nacogdoches County on state Highway 7, approximately 12 miles west of Center, that occurred Wednesday, June 1, 2022.

The preliminary investigation indicates that at approximately 1 p.m., a 2011 Ford pickup was traveling west while a 2004 Ford SUV was traveling east. It is reported that the pickup traveled into the oncoming lane and struck the SUV.

Shelbyville Man Loses Life in Nacogdoches Auto-Pedestrian Crash

February 4, 2022 - A Shelbyville man was involved in an auto-pedestrian crash in Nacogdoches County Thursday night, and according to the Texas Department of Public Safety lost his life as a result of the incident.

The report states the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) the auto-pedestrian crash took place on state Highway 21, approximately one-mile west of Chireno, yesterday Feb. 3, 2022.

DPS Offers Safety Tips Ahead of Wintry Weather

January 19, 2022 - The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is reminding Texans that freezing rain, ice and snow can pose major hazards to drivers and pedestrians and is urging residents to be careful in such conditions.

DPS encourages everyone to take the appropriate safety precautions during wintry weather. This includes checking the battery, windshield wipers, tire pressure, tire treads and fluid levels in their vehicles, as well as ensuring door and trunk locks are properly lubricated to prevent them from freezing.

DPS Reminds Texans to Use iWatchTexas, Other Valuable Resources

January 13, 2022 – As kids kick off the second half of the school year, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) reminds students, parents, teachers and other school administrators that the iWatchTexas program is a critical resource for reporting suspicious activity in schools and communities in order to help prevent dangerous attacks. During the 2020-21 school year, there were no school shootings in Texas. By using the numerous resources available, everyone can continue working to prevent attacks by reporting any potential threats.

DPS Labs Adopt New National Science Standards

November 5, 2021 - The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is proud to announce that its Crime Laboratory Division laboratories have been recognized for voluntarily adopting national forensic standards published by the Organization of Scientific Area Committees for Forensic Science (OSAC), created by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). The DPS laboratories have been recognized by NIST as OSAC Implementers.
