January 12, 2018 - The Battle of Mansfield was one of the largest Civil War battles fought west of the Mississippi. Heroism and sacrifice abounded as both sides clashed from daybreak to sunset in the fields and woods of Northwest Louisiana, in what would become the last major victory of the War for Confederate arms. Why was the battle fought? What were the objectives of each side? At 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 20, an in-depth presentation by the park historian using battlefield maps and informative slides will answer these questions and more.
August 31, 2017 - Discussion of the Crossroads Phase - Battle of Mansfield
The desperate fight for survival of Third Division, 13th Army Corps, during the Battle of Mansfield is often overlooked in Civil War discussions and studies. At 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16, come to Mansfield State Historic Site and learn more about one of the longest sustained actions of the battle. Using the museum’s extensive Crossroads Phase exhibit as a backdrop, find out more about this critical stage of the Battle of Mansfield.
July 6, 2017 - Mansfield State Historic Site will host a Kite Day on Saturday, July 22, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. The flying of kites has been a great recreational activity in the United States for over 200 years, so take time to come out to the park and enjoy this great activity! Bring your own kite which you made or bought and come enjoy the open space we have to offer.
March 9, 2017 - As part of National Tourism Week, Mansfield State Historic Site staff – in collaboration with the DeSoto Parish Tourism Bureau – will conduct a guided tour of the Pleasant Hill Battlefield on Saturday, May 13.

On Saturday 24th, in connection with National Public Lands Day, Mansfield State Historic Site is hosting an “immersive” event that will allow you to experience what many of the soldiers of the American Civil War did. Be enlisted, set up your camp, drill, enjoy a period type lunch, and more! There are 15 slots available for this program and pre-registration is required.
