February 22, 2018 - Soon we will celebrate Texas' Independence Day. Set on the anniversary of the signing of Texas’ Declaration of Independence from Mexico, it is a reminder of our state’s rich history. After the declaration of independence was signed, Texas operated as a stand-alone Republic for 10 years, before joining the United States.

Here are five things happening around your state this month:
January 4, 2018 Austin - Today, Texas State Senator Robert Nichols (R-Jacksonville) and Texas State Representative Travis Clardy (R-Nacogdoches) announced a significant allocation of funding for Rusk State Hospital.
October 30, 2017 - Recently, Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick appointed State Senator Robert Nichols (R-Jacksonville) to serve his third term on the Texas Sunset Advisory Commission.
"I am honored that Lt. Governor Patrick has appointed me again to serve on the Sunset Advisory Commission," said Nichols. "The work done by the Commission is essential for ensuring transparency, accountability and efficiency in our state's government."
Nichols previously served on the Commission from 2009 to 2013 and then from 2015 to 2017. He also served as Vice Chairman.
October 26, 2017 - We have officially moved into the Fall season and with that comes the expectation of cooler weather, the changing of the leaves, time with family and one of my favorite fall traditions…hunting season.
September 28, 2017 - About a month ago, many parts of our state were devastated by Hurricane Harvey. Since that time, my staff and I have been working hard to ensure that those in Senate District 3 are receiving the help and services they need.
August 31, 2017 - Hurricane Harvey brought unfathomable destruction to coastal and southeast Texas. I want to use this column to describe how you or your loved ones can get help or volunteer. To volunteer, visit the National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster, https://www.nvoad.org/hurricane-harvey/volunteer/, and they will pair you with an organization that will use you to do the most good for the hurricane victims.
